If you want to make some positive changes in your live, pick-up a trade and help others while your at it, the following may be for you.  Impact Lake Charles AmeriCorps(ILCA) is currently recruiting members to participate in their annual community service program, beginning August 22.

ILCA is a valuable service learning and community service program, that gives its members an opportunity to teach individuals health and safety education. Members will receive all the life skills training needed, prior to working with others.  Plus additional training in team building, conflict resolution, first aid and CPR, to diversity training and resume building.  Currently ILCA provides health and safety ed to area students in grades K-5 attending Barbe, Johnson and Fairview Elementary.

If your interested know that space is limited, as only 25 members will be excepted.  Below are requirements needed for applicants to participate in the program:

*Be at least 17 years of age
*Have a high school diploma a or agree to obtain a high school diploma by the end of the service term
*Have a GED or agree to obtain a GED by the end of the service term
*Demonstrate reading and writing skills through a literacy assessment
*Have letters of recommendation
*Have experience with children
*Be dependable
*Be a team player
*Have an excellent attitude
*Be a self-starter
*Have drive and determination
*Have a genuine concern for the well-being of children
*Be drug-free

Members will receive a living stipend of $1,147 while participating and will be expected to complete an average of 18-20 hours per week(minimum of 300 hours total) between August and December.  Upon completion of the program, members will be awarded with a $1,222 scholarship that can be used towards college or student loan payments.
