Alan Jackson, Bill Anderson, Steve Dorff Headed for Songwriters’ Hall of Fame
Alan Jackson, Bill Anderson and Steve Dorff are among some of the songwriting greats that have been announced as inductees to the Songwriter's Hall of Fame this year. The list also includes John Cougar Mellencamp, Kool & the Gang and more.
Jackson has been a prolific songwriter throughout his career, penning or co-writing more than 20 of his own hits, including "Here In the Real World," "Chatahoochee" and "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)."
“I started writing because somebody told me I needed some original material. I’d never even thought about writing or studied songwriting,” Jackson shares in a press release. “There are different aspects of your career, and they all bring different rewards and feelings…but the songwriting is very fulfilling... Songwriting is definitely the most creative part.”
Dorff's songs have been recorded by iconic country artists such as Kenny Rogers, Anne Murray, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and countless others. His hits include Strait's "I Cross My Heart" and Murray's "I Just Fall in Love Again."
“I am profoundly honored and grateful to be included in this amazing class of songwriters," Dorff said in a press release.
Anderson's first major label song release, "City Lights," recorded by Ray Price, went to No. 1 when Anderson was barely 20 years old. In 60 years of songwriting, Anderson has cranked out the hits, including George Strait's "Give It Away" and "Whiskey Lullaby," a duet recorded by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss.
The Songwriters' Hall of Fame’s 49th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner will be held on June 14 in New York City.
