
KPLC’s Cynthia Arceneaux Retiring After A Historic 40 Year Career
Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - For generations of viewers across Southwest Louisiana, the evening news has often begun with a familiar, trusted face. That era is coming to a close as longtime KPLC-TV anchor Cynthia Arceneaux prepares to retire this August, bringing an extraordinary broadcasting career to an end.
Arceneaux's retirement marks the conclusion of more than 40 years at KPLC and approximately 45 years in the broadcasting industry. A graduate of Louisiana State University with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism, Arceneaux joined KPLC in 1982.


Early in her career, she made local history by becoming the first African American television news anchor in the Lake Charles market. It was a groundbreaking achievement that helped pave the way for greater diversity and representation in local media.
Many residents have grown up watching Arceneaux deliver the news. Some remember seeing her on television as children and continue to watch her today. That rare connection with multiple generations of viewers is a testament to the lasting impact she has had on the community.

Growing up in Southwest Louisiana, I watched Cynthia deliver the 6 o’clock news. She was poised yet strong; she was everything that I wanted to be. It has been a joy to serve in the same newsroom as Cynthia, and we hope to honor her legacy with our continued commitment to journalism.
Personally, I have been a fan of Cynthia's and am lucky to call her a friend. She is a broadcast legend, and I am grateful to know her and admire her work. She will be missed in Southwest Louisiana, and whoever takes over is going to have some really big shoes to fill.
