Lake Street Widening Project Begins Today Jan. 18 in Lake Charles

The City of Lake Charles has announced that starting today, construction will begin on the widening project on Lake Street just South of McNeese Street in Lake Charles.

That stretch of the road is currently only a two lane road heading South from McNeese Street to Country Club road.

Matt Young with the City of Lake Charles says,

The northbound lane will remain open. Southbound traffic will be detoured east on McNeese Street and then south on University Drive to Lake Street.

The project is expected to last until September 2018. During the reconstruction, businesses and residents will continue to have access to their establishments. Detours will be posted.

If you live in that area or travel through that area often, you know that traffic is already thick at that location especially around 7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and in the afternoon from 4:30 p.m.to 6:00 p.m.

So expect delays for the next 8 months until it is complete.
