The LHSAA softball playoffs are kicking into high gear and there are a few teams in Southwest Louisiana who are taking part in the action. LHSAA baseball teams in the area have wrapped up their regular seasons this past week and will be waiting to hear their names called this Sunday when the LHSAA baseball playoff pairings will be announced. Southwest Louisiana is also expected to be well represented in the baseball playoffs.

In 5A softball action, two local teams faced off against each other on Friday night. Fifth seeded Sam Houston hosted twelfth seeded Sulphur. Both teams had impressive first round wins. Sam Houston defeated Parkway 5-0 on Monday while Sulphur defeated CE Byrd 9-1 on Tuesday night. Sam Houston defeated Sulphur 5-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

After defeating Fontainebleau 12-2 on, the sixteenth seeded Barbe Lady Bucs softball team took a road trip to the east side of Gonzales to face top seeded St. Amant last night. The Lady Bucs would fall in defeat to the top ranked Lady Gators by a score of 11-4.

In 3A softball action, the sixth seeded Iota Lady Bulldogs defeated Port Barre 9-1 on Thursday night. They will face off against the three seed Kaplan in the quarterfinals. In 2A softball action, thirteenth seeded Kinder will get on the road and travel to Covington for a 3 o'clock game today against fourth seeded Archbishop Hannan with a trip to the quarterfinals on the line.

The LHSAA softball quarterfinals, semi-finals, and championship games for every classification will be held at Frasch Park in Sulphur this coming Friday and Saturday.

The LHSAA baseball playoff pairings wont be announced until tomorrow, but the LHSAA has a list of their power ratings on their website for each class. While the power ratings come straight from the LHSAA website, it does not mean that it's exactly how the playoff brackets will be set. Keep in mind that the first round seedings and pairings have not yet been made official.

According to the ratings on the LHSAA website Sulphur is likely to get the top seed in 5A and is projected to face off against Walker. The Sam Houston Broncos are listed at number five and could face Central (BR) while Sulphur is listed at number six and could face Archbishop Shaw.

In the 4A power ratings, the Lagrange Gators are listed at twenty-two. They are projected to face Cecilia. The Eunice Bobcats are listed as the twenty seed and could face off against Belle Chasse in the first round.

In the 3A power ratings, Southwest Louisiana teams are well represented. The Iowa Yellow Jackets are listed at number three and could face Church Point. The South Beauregard Golden Knights are listed at number two and could go up against Baker. The St. Louis Saints are listed at number twelve and could face Pine Prairie. The Jennings Bulldogs are listed at number twenty-three and could travel to face Evangel. Finally, the Westlake Rams are listed at twenty-nine and could travel to face Brusly.

In the 2A power ratings, Kinder is listed at number six and could face off against Welsh who is listed at number twenty-seven. The Rosepine Eagles are listed at seventeen and could travel to face Holy Savior Menard. The DeQuincy Tigers are listed at twenty-three and could travel to face Sterlington.

In the 1A power ratings, the Oberlin Tigers are listed at twenty and could travel to face Ascension Episcopal. The St. Edmund Bluejays are listed at number five and could face off with Logansport.

Remember, these baseball pairing are not yet official. This is just to give a general idea as to where the teams are expected to fall in the bracket seedings. The official LHSAA baseball playoff pairings will be announced sometime tomorrow afternoon.

The LHSAA baseball semi-finals and championship games for every classification will be held at McMurray Park in Sulphur from May 14-16.
