Freezing Temps Ahead: Louisiana Winter Weather Tips
(KNGT-FM) - Freezing temperatures and icy conditions could impact many areas over the next few days. Cold weather can lead to power outages, dangerous roads, and other problems if you are not prepared. To help keep you and your family safe, we’ve put together a simple winter weather checklist so you’re ready for whatever the next week may bring.

Temperatures are going to drop significantly in certain parts of Louisiana over the weekend and throughout the next week. Right now, most weather models show the chance for frozen rain and ice staying north of the I-10 corridor. That means areas like Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans may stay mostly rainy and cold.
This front could push temperatures well below freezing in many areas. If that happens while moisture is still present, some parts of the state could experience ice buildup. North Louisiana, especially areas near the I-20 corridor, could be hit the hardest. Forecasters warn that heavy ice could lead to power outages and dangerous road conditions.
REMEMBER: Models and forecasts change DAILY.
Make sure you stay updated on everything your LOCAL meteorologists are reporting. Be careful because there are many so-called "meteorologists" on Facebook who are just chasing clicks. For accurate and reliable weather, stick with your LOCAL weather team.
Taking a few minutes now to prepare can make a big difference later. Staying ready helps keep you, your family, and your pets safe during winter weather. We've put together a checklist to make sure you're prepared for whatever comes our way...
