We reported yesterday that the McNeese Football team was hitting the practice field for the start of spring practice. It had been 410 days since the football program had done any type of football activities.

The Pokes hit the practice field yesterday with helmets, shorts, and shirts and will do the same again today. They will dress out in shoulder pads later this week.

They are getting ready for the upcoming 2021 spring football season since the fall season was postponed. The McNeese athletic department announced yesterday the game times for the seven game 2021 spring football season.

The Pokes will have only three home games this spring, and the games will have early start times due to the fact that the lights at Cowboy stadium were damaged during Hurricane Laura with a follow up from Delta. The turf at Cowboy stadium was also damaged during the hurricanes and has been replaced.

McNeese Football will host Incarnate Word February 27,  Lamar on March 13, and Nicholls on April 3, all in Lake Charles and all the games will have a noon kickoff time.

According to Matt Bonnette with McNeese, the Cowboys season opener at Tarleton State will carry a 6:00pm start time, as will the March 6 game at Southeastern Louisiana. March 20 at Northwestern State has yet to set a time but the April 10 finale at Sam Houston State will kick off at 4:00pm.

Get ready for some early games this spring in Lake Charles. I guess we will have to tailgate after the games.
