McNeese Releases 1st Depth Chart of 2025 Preseason

Lake Charles, Louisiana (KNGT-FM) - With less than two weeks until the McNeese Cowboys kick off their 2025 football season, Head Coach Matt Viator released the first preseason depth chart on Tuesday.

With the return of Coach Viator, it has been a more business-like approach through the first fall camp back. The scrimmages have been very nicely attended, littered with a ton of former players and Cowboy Football fans. But everyone wants one thing: to win football games.

McNeese will open the season on August 30th against the Louisiana Christian Wildcats.

Heading into the final scrimmage of Fall Camp this past Saturday, all eyes were placed on the Quarterback battle. Now, things were a bit subsided when Alex Flores did not participate in the scrimmage due to a wrist injury, so Jake Strong took the majority of the reps and played well.

In turn, Matt Viator announced on Monday Afternoon that Jake Strong would be the Cowboys' starting Quarterback come Week One against Louisiana Christian. Strong transferred to McNeese from Texas Tech, where he started one game and played in two for the Red Raiders. Strong was a 3-star recruit coming out of High School in Texas.

It has certainly been a work in progress for the Cowboys, but the defense has prevailed above everyone else in fall camp. Many would tell you that was expected with an entirely new offensive staff.
