Nick Saban To Be Inducted Into Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
Natchitoches, Louisiana - One of the most legendary football coaches in College Football history is getting a big honor in Louisiana. On Wednesday, it was announced that Former LSU head football coach Nick Saban will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025.
Saban is joining 11 other people in the Hall of Fame class, including some who worked with him during his time at LSU. These include star offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth, LSU athletic staff member Herb Vincent, and sportswriters Glenn Guilbeau and the late Ed Daniels.
Nick Saban made a significant impact at LSU. He became head coach in 2000 and led the team to a national championship just three years later, in 2003. That season, LSU beat Oklahoma in the BCS National Championship Game at the Superdome in New Orleans. Saban also helped the Tigers win SEC Championships in 2001 and 2003, plus three SEC West Division titles. He finished his time at LSU 48-16, including a 4-1 record in bowl games.
After leaving LSU in 2004, Saban coached the Miami Dolphins in the NFL before returning to college football at Alabama. There, he won six more national titles, giving him seven total. He retired in 2023 after 28 seasons as a college head coach, ending his career with an amazing record of 292 wins, 71 losses, and 1 tie.
Saban isn’t just a winner, he’s also a great teacher. Many of his assistant coaches, like Jimbo Fisher and Kirby Smart, went on to become national championship coaches themselves. Saban is already in the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December 2025.
Now that he’s retired from coaching, Saban has joined the ESPN College GameDay team, appearing on TV every Saturday to talk about college football. At 73 years old, he’s even been nominated for a Sports Emmy Award.
Saban and the rest of the 2025 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame class will be honored at a big ceremony on June 28 in Natchitoches. The celebration will include three days of events starting on June 26. Some events are free and open to the public. For more information, visit LaSportsHall.com or call 318-238-4255.
