Popular Mac & Cheese Brand Sold in Texas Recalled
Texas Residents, you might want to take a peek in your pantry to see if you have this product, because it looks like it is getting recalled for "Safety Reasons." We've got everything you need to know...
A well-known macaroni and cheese brand has issued a recall over concerns about potential bacterial contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made the announcement this week. Reser’s Fine Foods has recalled two of its products: "Reser’s American Classics Macaroni and Cheese" and "Reser’s American Classics Macaroni and Cheese White Cheddar."
This recall is part of a larger effort by Reser’s to remove some of its deli salads and refrigerated products from shelves. The recall is due to what the company called “temperature abuse,” which means the products may have spoiled because they were not kept at the right temperature.
Reser’s Fine Foods explained that the issue was traced back to just one truckload of products, which was sent to a single distributor. The recall started on July 29 and was updated on September 3 as a Class II recall. A Class II recall means that the product might cause temporary or mild health problems, but the chance of serious harm is small.
The recalled macaroni and cheese items have “use by” dates of September 14 and 16, 2024, for the regular version, and September 11, 2024, for the white cheddar version. The affected products were sold in five states: California, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. This recall did not impact stores like Safeway, Stop & Shop, and Walmart, where Reser’s products are sold. However, some Target locations carried the recalled items.
This isn’t the first food safety issue in recent weeks. Other recent recalls include listeria contamination in Boar’s Head deli meats, which led to 57 hospitalizations. Perdue Foods also recalled over 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken products after customers found a metal wire in the food. Additionally, a salmonella outbreak led Wisconsin health officials to recall eggs after 65 people got sick.
Consumers who purchased any affected Reser’s products should return them to the store for a refund or throw them away to avoid potential health risks.
