The year was 2013 and Gator 99.5 was set to bring you another edition of the Taste Of Country Music Christmas Tour featuring a then-rising country music star. This artist was just making waves in Nashville and hit number one with his first single when we booked him for the show.

Let's give you some hints on who it was:

  • The date for the show was November 22, 2013
  • It took place at Yesterday's Night Club where Walk-ons now sits
  • Mike Soileau shot bow and arrows with him backstage at Yesterday's Night Club before the show
  • His dad was a solo country artist as well and had a couple of hits of his own before switching gears and becoming a very successful songwriter in Nashville
  • One of his dad's biggest hits was That Ain't My Truck In Your Drive
  • This artist's first big hit which went #1 on the charts was It Goes Like This

You should know who it is by now right? We are talking about Thomas Rhett. That's right you may have forgotten that Gator 99.5 had Thomas Rhett live in Lake Charles and the tickets were dirt cheap.

Tickets for the show went on sale three months before the show for $12 bucks and we sold the show out in four weeks. It was sold out two months before the show. We were told that people who didn't have a ticket were freaking out and were buying tickets on the secondary market for over $100 apiece.

Thomas even had his dad Rhett Akins at the show and his dad came on stage to sing his big hit we mentioned above called That Ain't My Truck.

The venue was packed and Thomas put on one heck of a show. Who would have known how huge he would become? He went from playing nightclubs like ours in Lake Charles to selling out stadiums, being named the Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year, and having 20 number songs.

You got to see him first before he became a huge country music star. How cool is that? Here is the concert poster for the show back in 2013. Check it out.
