SHOCKING! Texas Dollar General Stores May Be Shutting Down
Dollar General has announced plans to close several locations across the United States in the coming months due to rising costs and other factors. But will Texas be affected? We’re taking a deep dive to find out what this means for the Lone Star State!
Dollar General was founded in 1939 by J.L. Turner and his son Cal Turner in Springfield, Kentucky. The company began as a small, family-owned store selling discount goods. Over the years, it grew rapidly, focusing on offering a wide range of products at affordable prices. By 1955, Dollar General became a publicly traded company and expanded across the United States. Today, it has over 20,000 stores in 48 states, including over 1,889 locations here in Texas.
Dollar General's announcement of a few store closures is part of a larger trend in the retail world. Other major retailers like Kohl’s and Macy’s have also announced store closures, while popular stores like JOANN and Party City have shut down all their locations nationwide.
As inflation continues to rise and shopping habits change, the retail landscape is shifting. Some brands are closing up shop, while others are expanding. It’s hard to predict how all this will play out, but one thing is clear: retail is changing, and we’ll have to wait and see what comes next.
Per a report from Fast Company, Dollar General's retail company recently announced plans to close 96 of its stores in early 2025. Additionally, 45 locations under the pOpshelf brand will close, and another 6 stores will be converted into Dollar General locations.
This move comes as the company faces financial struggles. Inflation is rising, and consumer spending is cooling off, making it harder for many stores to stay profitable.
So what Dollar General locations are going to be closing its doors?
So will Texas locations be closing? Per the Fast Company report, we don't necessarily know just yet. Dollar General has not named specific stores that will close, the company operates over 20,000 locations in 48 states. It also still feels like there is a Dollar Store on every street corner.
So you'll have to stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled to see if we will be affected by the cuts here in Texas.
