🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — Now y’all know how it goes down here in the South, fall ain’t really a season, it’s more like a rumor. One minute it’s 95 degrees and you’re sweatin’ through your jeans, the next you wake up and it’s 52 and you can see your breath like you’re in a Hallmark movie. But when that first little breeze hits, buddy, you can bet we all start sayin’ the same ol’ things.

Things People in the South say during Fall

First one’s always, “Well, it finally feels like fall!”, which we’ll say every single morning for about two weeks straight, even if it hits 80 by lunchtime. We’ll throw on flannel shirts, light up a pumpkin candle, and act like we’re up in Tennessee instead of Lake Charles.

Then there’s “You can fry an egg on that dashboard, but I’m makin’ gumbo anyway.” Down here, gumbo season don’t wait for cold weather,  it’s a state of mind. Somebody’s always got a pot simmerin’, and if you drive by and smell that roux, you better pull in and say hey.

You’ll also hear folks say stuff like “I’m ready for deer season,” or “Where’s my hoodie?” even though the only hoodie they own’s been sittin’ in the closet since last Mardi Gras. And don’t forget “Time to break out the crockpot”, that’s Southern for “I’m makin’ chili and you’re invited.”

So Fall here in Southwest Louisiana might not be like the rest of the world, but if you are like me you are ready for the cooler weather and a fire burning in the fire place, lets enjoy it while we can.
