We have all heard about the plans for a new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles for the past few years now. We learned about a year ago that the green light had been given for the plans to go ahead and replace the decades-old I-10 bridge.

It was just announced by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) that closures of both the I-10 Eastbound and Westbound shoulders will start this Friday, June 6th, 2025. According to Calcasieu.info,

So, what is the timeline? According to the DOTD, closures will begin Friday, June 6, 2025, and continue through Sunday, July 6, 2025. This timeline could change due to weather and other conditions.

So the big question is, is the closure part of the start of building a new bridge? The DOTD said in a statement and published on Calcasieu.info,

Some of the work is in preparation for the construction of the new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge

Now that we know this information, get ready for traffic delays. We are already dealing with the I-210 Bridge Westbound being down to one lane as they fix the lights on that bridge due to damage from Hurricane Laura. That project is scheduled to last through September 2025.
