Urgent Airbag Recall: Louisiana Drivers Could Be at Risk
(KNGT-FM) - Buying a car in Louisiana isn’t easy these days. Whether you're looking for a new or used vehicle, finding one you like and can afford is tough. Newer cars come with some great safety features, like automatic brakes that help prevent crashes and blind spot detectors on the mirrors.
Most new cars also come with warranties that cover repairs and parts for a set number of years or miles. But even brand-new cars can develop serious issues later, and that’s when recalls happen.
What’s the Deal With the Airbag Recall?
A massive recall is affecting many popular cars driven all across Louisiana. The issue? Faulty Takata airbags, and they could be deadly.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recalled vehicles with these airbags in late 2024. Reports show that Takata airbag inflators have exploded, killing 27 people and injuring at least 400 more in the U.S.
The scariest part? You or someone you know might be driving a car with one of these airbags and not even realize it. Many of the affected vehicles are nearly 20 years old, meaning they’ve been on the road for decades. These defective airbags have caused serious injuries and deaths, making it critical to check if your car is at risk.
