A weather-related traffic accident in Sulphur lead to the death of one man, and a second man being sent to a local hospital with "unknown" injuries.

According to a media release, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a one-vehicle accident on E. Burton St. in Sulphur, at about 11 am, Thursday, January 3. "The investigation revealed a U-Haul truck was traveling east on Burton when a large tree uprooted thought to be due to wind and saturation of the ground from the vast amount of rainfall this morning, fell across the road and landed on the cab of the truck".

The driver was 33-year-old Jacob Hood of Sulphur, he sustained unknown injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Jacob's father, 68-year-old William Hood of Sulphur, was a passenger in the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
