From the smiles you get from each person as you pass them to the beauty of the Calcasieu, I think we can all agree that Lake Charles, Louisiana is a great place to live. But with that being said, there are a few things you need to experience in the Lake Area before you can consider yourself a true Lake Charlesian -- Yes, I did just make up the word "Lake Charlesian", feel free to use it.

I've lived here for almost three years now and I'm finally starting to feel like I've experienced almost everything that there is to experience in this wonderful city, but can I actually call myself Lake Charlesian?

What are a few "rights of passage", if you will, before you reach true Lake Charles status? I asked listeners to finish this sentence, "You haven't lived in Lake Charles until..."

And let me tell you, if you want to reach that coveted Lake Charlesian status there is a pretty big list of things you need to do. From eating at Darrell's to getting stuck in traffic on the I-10 Bridge, Lake Area residents know a thing or two about living the Lake Charles life. Angelique says "You haven't lived in Lake Charles until you've had a Darrell's Special", but Michele thinks "You haven't lived in Lake Charles until you have KD's at 3 a.m. with the cops". Check out what other true blue Lake Charlesian's had to say:

"You haven't lived in Lake Charles until you've ate so much crawfish you could pop!"

-- Sonja

"You haven't lived in Lake Charles until you get drunk and stumble from Yesterday's to Cowboy's to cap off the night!"

-- Jerry

"You haven't lived in Lake Charles until you made a new friend in the long port-a-potty lines at Contraband Days."

-- Kelli

"You haven't lived in Lake Charles until you've eaten gator bites and drank a beer at Walk On's"

-- Jaimi

"You haven't lived in Lake Charles until you've experienced the traffic."

-- Haley

"You haven't lived in Lake Charles until you've eaten cake from Jo's Party House."

-- Michelle

"You haven't lived in Lake Charles until you've listened to Mike and Emily in the Morning on Gator 99.5 for an entire year on your way to work!"

-- Steffan

There you have it! The people of Lake Charles have spoken and it looks like if you want to call yourself a true Lake Charlesian you're gonna have to do a lot of eating and listening to Gator 99.5. Yeah, shout out to Steffan for his comment, which I am especially partial to. But, hey, if it's on Facebook then it must be true!

Did I miss anything? If I did comment below and I'll add it to the list!
