2020 Bayou Classic Might Not Be Played in New Orleans

The annual Bayou Classic game might be in jeopardy of not being played in New Orleans this year or even next year in 2021.

The Bayou Classic consists of Grambling and Southern Universities locking up every year. Other than the game, fans also look forward to the performances from both University bands.

There are conflicting statements being released by Southern University and the Bayou Classic organizers.

Southern University Athletic Director Roman Banks released a statement and said the game between Southern and Grambling will not be played in New Orleans in 2020, and it possibly might not be played in 2021 in the Big Easy.

However, Banks also went on to say the game could be played at three possible locations in the state of Louisiana. Those three locations include Southern's home stadium on the campus, at the Independence Stadium in Shreveport, or on the campus of LSU in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.

The other side of the coin is coming from the Bayou Classic organizers who released a statement as well, saying Banks comments were "premature".  Bayou Classic organizers released the following statement:

“There has been no decision about the Bayou Classic and any such statements about where the Bayou Classic might be played are premature. The Southwestern Athletics Conference Council of Presidents and Chancellors have a late June meeting where matters related to Fall sports will be discussed,” the statement attributed to the Bayou Classic Committee and Management Company says.

The Bayou Classic game has been played between Grambling and Southern since 1974 in the Big Easy, so we will have to wait and see what happens.
