If you are a resident of Calcasieu Parish, you need to make sure to read this.  The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has issued a burn ban for the entire parish.

The order was announced yesterday. The burn ban is a result of the current drought conditions in Southwest Louisiana which prompted the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury to issue a burn ban for all of Calcasieu Parish and it was effective immediately.

Just recently, the state of Louisiana state fire marshall issued a cease and desist order on all private burning in the entire state of Louisiana.

According to Laura Heller with the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury,

The executive order, signed by Police Jury President Tony Stelly, prohibits all outdoor private burning of any kind but doesn’t include prescribed burns. This follows the statewide cease and desist order, issued by Louisiana State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning, on all private burning.

The order also gives Calcasieu Parish Fire Departments the authority to extinguish all fires that are in direct violation of this ban.

If you decide to go against this burn ban and start a fire, you will be found in violation and could face serious penalties.

So make sure to not burn your trash, random scraps of wood, or even start a bonfire for entertainment. This is for the safety of yourself and others while we are in these dry conditions.
