Deadliest Insects in Louisiana: 5 Small Creatures That Can Kill You
🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — I ran across a Field & Stream List of the world's deadliest insects the other day. Several species of spiders, scorpions, and ticks are on the list. Louisiana has a few items on this list, so let's get started.
Louisiana's Top 5 Deadliest Insects
ANTS
The worst ants are outside our boundaries, but ants in general are on the list. You don't want to tamper with these things because of that. You would be better off keeping fire ants out of your affairs since they mean business.
BLACKWIDOW SPIDERS
Although black widows seldom cause death, their venom, which targets your nervous system, will always induce pain when they bite. They leave a lasting scar as well. They prefer dim areas, such as closets.
BROWN RECLUSE SPIDERS
Brown recluse spiders prefer warm, dry places to hide. I've know a few people that have gotten bit and these little guys leave a lasting scar.
BEES
Bees are included in the Field & Stream list. They are present because Africanized honey bees and Asian gigantic hornets are included with the rest of them in the publication. However, some people can still die from anaphylaxis (big word alert, I went to look it up, it means: a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that can affect multiple body systems) caused by common old bees.
MOSQUITOES
Among the fatal illnesses spread by mosquitoes include malaria, Zika, West Nile Virus, and yellow fever. And this summer, West Nile has been a major problem. Don't copy this iconic 1980s commercial that always made me queasy, and always have a repellent on hand that contains DEET.
We all know the dangers of living in the Bayou State, take this as your warning to look at the small things that could kill you.
