Bridge City, Texas, is a small town with a big history. Nestled in Orange County, it's about 100 miles east of Houston and sits near the Gulf of Mexico. Back in the day, this area was known as Prairie View because of its location on the coastal prairie. But things changed in 1938 when the Port Arthur-Orange Bridge, now called the Rainbow Bridge, was built over the Neches River. This bridge connected Orange County to Port Arthur, and the town adopted the name Bridge City.

Despite its growth, the folks in Bridge City were a bit hesitant to make things official. Even with a population of 4,677 in 1960, two attempts to incorporate in 1961 didn't pass. It wasn't until 1970 that the residents voted to incorporate, with 677 in favor and 466 against. By then, the population had grown to 8,164.
