With just your name and Social Security number, they can open credit cards, take out loans, or even commit fraud in your name. If they also get their hands on your driver’s license or passport, they can use it for even more serious crimes.

Almost one-third of Americans have been victims of identity theft. In 2022 alone, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) received about 1.1 million reports of stolen identities. Criminals are always looking for ways to grab personal information, and your wallet could be an easy target.
