🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — Let me tell y’all something that’ll warm your heart on a Monday Morning. Earlier this year, the wild and fun-loving Krewe de Fous Amis came together not only for a good time, but for a great cause. This Krewe threw a golf tournament, and it wasn’t just about birdies and bogeys, they raised over $5,000 for the Buddy Russ Foundation.

Who Is Buddy Russ?

Now, if you’re from around here, you already know who Buddy Russ was. Russel “Buddy Russ” Conrad wasn’t just a radio DJ on Gator 99.5, he was family to all of us and one of my bestfriends. He had a heart of gold and a laugh that could fill a dance hall. After Russ passed away, his family and friends along with the Community Foundation Southwest Louisiana started the Buddy Russ Foundation to keep his memory alive by helping others in our community, especially those battling cancer.

On July 31st, the Krewe de Fous Amis got together again, not for a party this time, but for something even better. They met up with Russ’ dad, David “Pop” Conrad, and handed over that $5,000 check with proud hearts and big smiles.

It’s things like this that make me proud to be from Lake Charles. People helping people, just like Russ always did.

I often take a quote from the movie Sandlot when telling people about Russ, and the promise I made to make sure that his legacy lives forever. I'll leave you with this. "There's Hero's and there's Legends, Hero's get remembered, but Legends never Die"
