McNeese Names Street After Former President Dr. Burckel

What a special moment! On Wednesday, the University officially announced the renaming of a campus street after now Former President Daryl V. Burckel. The video of the moment is priceless!

Dr. Daryl V. Burckel began his term as the seventh president of McNeese State University on July 1, 2017. In December, after nearly seven years of service as President, Dr. Burckel announced his decision to step down as University President.

“It has been a profound honor and privilege to lead McNeese State University over the past seven years as president. I am forever grateful for the support of our faculty, staff, students, and the McNeese community who made my time in this position both rewarding and fulfilling,” Burckel said. “I believe this is the right time to welcome in new leadership to build on accomplishments we have achieved during my tenure, and I look forward to returning to the classroom to finish my career where I started, educating students.” - Dr. Burckel via McNeese State University

Burckel joined the McNeese faculty in 1992 and rose through the ranks to serve as the head of the McNeese Department of Accounting, Finance, and Economics. He began his term as president on July 1, 2017, while continuing to teach classes as a professor of accounting at the College of Business.

Burckel recently clarified on Poke Nation with Jim Gazollo that he will not be straying too far away from McNeese as he is going to remain in the classroom on campus.

Burckel will hand the job of University President over to Dr. Wade Rousse. The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System voted unanimously to name Dr. Wade Rousse as the next president of McNeese State University.

On Wednesday Afternoon, McNeese announced that West Stadium Drive will now become Daryl V. Burckel Drive in honor of our 7th president. Check out the video!
