
McNeese Hosts First-Place Southeastern in Huge Southland Series
Lake Charles, Louisiana (KNGT-FM) - It's about as big a regular season weekend as you will see in the Southland Conference, as McNeese will look to try and keep their championship hopes alive as they take on Southeastern Louisiana this weekend in Lake Charles.

Right now, McNeese Softball sits in third place in the Southland Conference standings. The Cowgirls are five games behind Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions softball, who are in first place.

McNeese is 23-13 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The Cowgirls are coming off a strong weekend where they swept Incarnate Word in three games.
Even though the Cardinals' slugger, Victoria Altamirano, hit five homers of her own, the Cowgirls scored six runs in the sixth inning Friday to win 9-5, then rallied from a 5-2 deficit in Game 1 on Saturday to win 6-5 with a four-run seventh. They closed the sweep with an 8-6 win, fueled by a five-run fifth inning.
Southeastern comes into the series very hot. The Lady Lions are 30-9 overall and a perfect 12-0 in conference play. They have also won 16 games in a row.
Pitcher Haley Crawford leads the team with a 1.07 ERA. Cera Blanchard and Hallie Burns also make it tough for opposing hitters. The Lions' pitching staff has been elite all season long. At the plate, Shelby Morris leads Southeastern with a .415 batting average.
Weekend Details
McNeese and Southeastern will face off in a big three-game series starting Thursday at Joe Miller Field. There will be two games on Thursday beginning at 4 p.m., with the final game set for Friday at 1 p.m. All three games will air on ESPN+.
