Sasol Donates $1 Million to the Port of Wonder
Sasol announced yesterday that they will donate $1 million to the new Lake Charles STEM Children’s Museum and nature center that will be housed in Port Wonder.
The Port of Wonder will feature a new Children’s Museum of Lake Charles and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ Science Center and Educational Complex. This new site will marry education and entertainment with a heavy emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). It will be located between the alligator pond and the parking garage along the beach.
Brad Griffith, Executive Vice President of Sasol’s global chemicals business, said this in a press release:
Sasol is proud to be a partner in this public-private collaboration, one that will be an exciting addition to Southwest Louisiana, a place our employees call home, a place Sasol calls home and hopes to do so for a long time.
To date, this is the largest donation contribution by Sasol in an American community. The company went on to say they are focused on investing in STEM education in SWLA to help create and develop the future workforce of the area.
According to Sasol, they have contributed over $7 million to community projects that deal with STEM education and business development.
