The Lake Charles Police Department Lays To Rest One of Their Own
The Lake Charles Police Department has laid to rest one of their most decorated officers.
Bobby was a commissioned K-9 officer from 2015 until his retirement in 2020. He was responsible for over 70 criminal apprehensions and worked alongside his partner, Cpl. Jacob Pearson.
The Lake Charles Police told KPLC Bobby enjoyed his retirement and loved being a member of the Pearson family.
Dogs have been used by law enforcement agencies for over 100 years. In 1888, English bobbies used bloodhounds to help aid the search for Jack the Ripper. The first department accredited for formally training dogs for police work was in Ghent, Belgium in 1889. The popularity of using K-9s for police work grew rapidly and by 1910, Germany had police dogs in over 600 of its cities.
