What Happened To The Louisiana Voodoo?
After major issues from the beginning, we learned on Tuesday after just one game, the Louisiana Voodoo will no longer be playing and part of the AFL.
The Arena Football League was founded back in 1987 and was a four-team league. The four teams were the Pittsburgh Gladiators, Denver Dynamite, Washington Commandos, and the Chicago Bruisers. The league was shut down several years back after it had expanded.
Of course, originally the Voodoo were supposed to play in Lake Charles, but there was an interesting relationship between the Voodoo and the Event Center officials since the beginning of the process. According to the Lake Charles Event Center and Mayor Nic Hunter, the Voodoo were not paying their bills, nor did the team have insurance.
Since then, the Voodoo moved their games to Lafayette where they played one game and that is all. There has been mass confusion between coaches, players, and league officials. Numerous reports have surfaced of players within the league not getting paid.
Because of issues with the netting at Blackham Coliseum, the Voodoo's next two games were canceled and postponed after their opening game on April 27, in which they defeated the Philadelphia Soul 53-18.
Despite the news, Voodoo has yet to post anything online or on social media about the cancellation or the team’s future, and tickets are still available for purchase on the team website.
