What Louisiana Town Has The Strangest Name?
If you're not from the bayou state, you probably think most towns are oddly named. I mean, Natchitoches? How is anyone supposed to pronounce that correctly.
Oh, and don't get me started on Iowa, which is actually pronounced EYE-OH-WAY. Do you know how many non-Louisianians we must confuse on a daily basis?
Not everywhere in Louisiana is impossible to pronounce, though. Some towns just have ridiculous names, but at least we can all get a good laugh at them. But which town has the most bizarre name in the state?
According to estately.com, we have quite a few towns with bizarre name potential, like Bunkie, Cow Island, Cut Off, Dry Prong, Grosse Tete, Keithville, Iota, Lucky, Pollock, and Quitman. But there can only be one winner, and that town is Waterproof, Louisiana. Congrats, Waterproof!
I'm not really sure why I'm congratulating Waterproof, Louisiana, because I'm pretty sure whoever picked that bizarre name is long gone, but their epic decision to name a town Waterproof will live on. Also, I'm pretty sure nowhere in Louisiana is actually waterproof, because it rains, floods, and hurricanes all over this state. It's nice wishful thinking, though.
