KPLC tells us a school  bus driver in Calcasieu Parish has been charged with a first offense DWI after driving to the wrong school on Wednesday morning.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office received a call around 6:30 a.m. that a bus driver was driving erratically on Elliot Road in south Lake Charles.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Brandi Hood, 32, had already pulled into St. John's Elementary School, which is not her normal route.

When deputies attempted to perform a sobriety test, Hood was too impaired to complete it.

Hood did tell the deputies she had taken prescribed Soma and Loracet pills.

"It doesn't matter if they're prescribed or not, if they're some type of narcotic drug, that impairs your driving you can still be charged with a DWI," said Sheriff Tony Mancuso. "It doesn't necessarily have to be alcohol."

Hood remains in the Calcasieu Correctional Center with a bond set at $750.

No students were involved in the incident.
