[EXCLUSIVE] Ty Herndon Recalls the Bonnie Raitt Moment That Changed His Life [Watch]

Ty Herndon was a guest on Taste of Country Nights to talk about his new book, What Mattered Most: A Memoir. During the conversation, he highlighted a life-changing moment he shared with country legend Bonnie Raitt.

Herndon told us, "Meeting Bonnie Raitt, I was the fan."

"I used to live right above the Hollywood Bowl, so I was sitting at the house we owned, and I knew she was coming to the Bowl," he explained. "I had never met her, and she's such a hero of mine."

Herndon said he first met Raitt when she played the Hollywood Bowl in September of 1992, but because her father had just passed away, the interaction was brief.

Fast forward two years to September of 1994, when Raitt returned to the venue above where Herndon lived. That time, he got the chance to really talk with her, and it completely changed his world.

What Did Bonnie Raitt Say to Ty Herndon?

"I told her I cut 'I Can't Make You Love Me' on a past album, and she goes, 'Ya know, someone sent that to me ... very well done.'"

It was at that very moment that Herndon said his life and career changed forever.

Herndon told me, "My life was over at that point." He then raised his voice to a high pitch and exclaimed, "'She said, 'Very well done!'"

Earlier in the interview, Herndon also revealed that he once had a crush on Wynonna Judd, saying, "I had a little crush on her. You know, and maybe she had a little crush on me."

I jokingly asked him if meeting Raitt and hearing her praise his version of "I Can't Make You Love Me" was better than turning down Judd back in the day. He laughed and replied, "Oh yeah, yeah, it's way better."
